Final Evaluation

Evaluation for unit Locating

This unit has encouraged me to work out of my comfort zone and under pressure. I am amazed by the number of projects I have done during this unit which includes the following;
  • Engineering embroidery
  • Fashion | Form | Fabrication
  • Manchester' Multi-Language Mushaira!
  • CP2
It was challenging for me to work for 4 projects all at the same time, I think the key to handling such workload for me was organising the time.

During the engineering embroidery, I had decided to work in a completely different way to create 3-dimensional sample pieces instead of making plain fabric samples. I have realised from my last unit 'intention' that I don't enjoy creating traditional patterns. Therefore, in this unit, my aim was to create 2D and 3D samples. Also, I have learned in the 'engineering embroidery' that I like creating movements of 3D pieces along with the fabric.

I think I have really played around with different materials in this project. I did make small samples, but I think, the photographs of my samples have turned out beautifully. Therefore, I will continue photographing my samples and I might try to start making posters with my sample's photographs and sell them in future.

I have also learned quilting and magnetism on fabric during this project. I did not feel like quilting is my style of working, but I have tried it for once to have a taste of it. Also, the magnetic workshop with Elnaz Yazdani was helpful. It was amazing to see the movements of fabric on the fabric piece with the gravitational energy.

The FFF final exhibition and the mushaira project final products are shown below;

In addition to this, I have also done a project called Fashion | Form | Fabrication. In this project, I have learned many new techniques like 3D printing, traditional collar making, organising time, etc.
In this project, I could not be able to print the actual 3D printed pieces due to the technician's busy schedule, but I think I have done pretty well by arranging the alternates of my sample pieces for the FFF exhibition. I might use 3D printing in future to experiment with my samples. I like the way a drawing can be printed in a 3-dimensional structure by using the CAD software and the 3D.machines.

However, I could not focus on the FFF project properly because I was doing the Mushaira project alongside. I think, for me, it's not a good idea to get extra projects alongside my projects because I could not pay proper attention to any of the two properly. For the next time, I will try to focus on my course work more than the other projects.

I think I have done a good amount of work and at the end, I finished all my tasks before the deadlines.
