Today, I have attended a talk of Elnaz Yazdani. She is a contemporary jewellery maker and an embroidery teacher, who has done an internship with 'Iris Van Herpen'. She has talked to us about the background of some fashion designed pieces by 'Iris Van Herpen'.
It was really interesting to know about the facts that a designer doesn't only work within his/her field but also works with other creative people - all together to make an interesting outcome of mixed media textiles with technology.
After the talk, I had the chance to attend the 'magnetic workshop' with Elnaz Yazdani. I have created some sample pieces with the magnet, iron powder and rubber solution to give the flexible feel to the piece as shown below:
 |
| Trapping materials with one-another |
 |
| Gravity pull by magnetism |
 |
| On the ceramic scrap piece |
 |
| On the jersey fabric. |
I really love the way this technique has worked. The sharpness and the natural movement by magnetism are really nice and relaxing to see.
I think the problem I have faced is that it doesn't dry on the jersey fabric. I might have not made the solution properly or maybe it is the nature of the jersey fabric that doesn't allow it to dry.
I might try this technique on my other projects as I like things shows movement according to the nature of chemicals.
